How We Handle Your Vehicle
-
1
Engine support and cover removal
We raise the engine slightly on an under-car bridge to access timing covers and the engine mount bracket.
-
2
Locking the engine timing
We rotate the crank to top dead centre and insert dedicated metal alignment pegs through the cams into the block.
-
3
Belt, tensioner, and water pump swap
We strip the worn belt, unbolt the old coolant pump, clean the mounting seat, and mount the new components.
-
4
Manual rotation and vacuum bleed
We pull the lock pins, turn the engine through two full revolutions by hand to confirm timing marks, and vacuum-fill coolant.
Questions about this service
My car has only covered 40,000 miles, why change the belt now?
Timing belts are made of vulcanised rubber and nylon cords that harden and crack with age, usually after five years regardless of mileage.
What happens if a timing belt snaps while driving?
On interference engines, the valves remain open and are instantly hit by ascending pistons, which bends the valves and damages the cylinder head.
Do you also change the auxiliary drive belt?
Yes, we fit a fresh drive belt because it must be unbolted during the job anyway and shares the same wear cycle.
